Grocery Value AnalysisHere is a list of the top 10 best deals at the grocery store in terms of calories per dollar, at least out of the foods that I have ever purchased. Some items such as mayonaisse and candy bars would have made the list, but are omitted because they are not considered healthy. And flour would have topped the list at a value of 3000 Cal/$, but it is omitted because it is not a food product that can be eaten on its own. I would recommend adding some meat and vegetables to this list in order to obtain a more balanced diet, despite the increase in cost. The data was computed using prices from Los Angeles in February 2008. If you can average 500 calories for every dollar you spend at the grocery store, then you can feed a typical adult male on $35 per week (assuming a diet of 2500 calories per day).
